Long Crichel Bakery

After two attempts to visit the bakery on a Monday on which day the bakery is closed! I remembered to go on a Tuesday. Third time lucky and I was not disappointed.

It is a lovely setting and when we arrived we were greeted by that wonderful fresh baked smell. In this case fresh rolls and buns.

Not being the earliest of risers we had arrived in early afternoon and were both feeling famished. I had visions of sausage rolls, pasties and cakes. Unfortunately almost everything had sold out so next time.

The lady in the shop was very helpful and what was left was posh pizza. A bit more like a flaky base than a dough base. It was fairly simple consisting of cheese, tomatoes and I think something like spinach or chard on the base, it was however absolutely delicious. We were directed to have a look around the bakery's walled garden across the road.

This was a real delight full of a great variety vegetables and flowers which are sold in the bakery shop. A really tranquil spot to enjoy our lunch.

In addition to the posh pizza we bought a sour dough loaf, which as per the lady's recommendation lasts for ages, is wonderful toasted with butter and honey and is one of the nicest loaves I have ever tasted.

We also purchased some wonderfully fresh Swiss chard and a jar of local honey (Horton honey produced in Wimborne - no website link at the moment) again delicious.

We will be back again soon and there is bakery shop in Wimborne, which we also need to visit on the right day. I am not sure of the hours.
