A great sausage roll and a lot more

Goldy's Farm Shop is an award winning bakery, butchery and grocer located just off the A35 Poole/Dorchester road.

I haven't bought too much from here. Mainly we pop in on impulse because they do a great sausage roll. Although once there we always end up buying something else.

So what makes a great sausage roll. Well it has a nice flaky pastry and the filling actually resembles so actual meat. In this case it is really meaty and solid with a lovely fresh sage taste.

They also sell very good organic meat and we had a lovely pork loin joint for Sunday lunch.

In some ways it reminds of an upmarket health food shop in London like Fresh and Wild, with the usual selection of muesli and Italian items.

Finally they have an excellent frozen section of their foods. So we did buy a lot of frozen sausage rolls and they are just as good. However I am sure we will be back.

So there are a lot of things we can probably get cheaper at a big supermarket, but the point is it is worth paying a bit more to keep these enterprises going. If you want to end up with the whole country turned into a giant supermarket, interspersed with nameless housing estates then shop you know where.

I am not anti-supermarkets and it is great to be able to buy everything you need in one, place when you are short of time. I just worry that if we don't support local businesses we end up with generic products wherever you live in the country. Ultimately this is about community and if you want to live in areas that are distinct and unique from one another then this small amount of support is really important.
