Brunch at the Camden Bar Ashley Cross
Having tried the Camden Bar's pancakes for brunch recently, I noticed the full English my friend was having looked really good.
We
arrived after breakfast was due to finish, but they have a great
attitude at the Camden and ordering breakfast was not a problem.
So after ordering an excellent latte both strong and milky. We both opted for the full English.
In
the main a triumph. The meat was excellent. Thick and crispy bacon and
really meaty sausages. I asked the waitress about the sausages and she
said they get their meat from Soutars
butchers which are just a few doors up. She also said the chef who
make his own spice mix for the sausages. They had a great flavour
slight;y reminiscent of a south African boerewors. By the way if you
want decent boerewors I can't recommend the No1 South African shop in Christchurch highly enough.
Other
good things about the breakfast were runny poached eggs. Proper hand
cut toast and real butter. The black pudding was also excellent.
The
only bits that let is down a bit were the flat mushroom, which was
really substantial but was served watery and seemed lacking in seasoning
as were the tomatoes.
So
nothing wrong with the ingredients, but just a little more attention to
detail and it would have been the perfect Sunday fry. The serving was
substantial and to be fair by the time I got to the mushroom I was full.
So a very well deserved 8/10 and something I would definitely have
again.
There are lots of other yummy items on the breakfast menu still to try.
As
always the service is great and the place always has a good vibe. A
great selection of indie classics were being played on the day we were
there. Made an 'oldie' like me feel very at home.
